The United States Department of Defense announced on 10 December 2024 that Boeing had been awarded a nearly half-billion-dollar contract to upgrade dozens of Japan’s F-15J fighter jets. As expected, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (with Boeing support) will carry out the upgrade work locally in Japan .
