Taipei [Taiwan], May 7 (ANI): A former Dutch diplomat Gerrit van der Wees said that the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) leader Mao Zedong had refuted claims over Taiwan. Pointing out the glaring historical inconsistencies of China's position on Taiwan's status over time, Wees said that Mao Zedong, in 1937, reportedly told American journalist Edgar Snow, that "...we will extend them (the Koreans) our enthusiastic help in their struggle for independence. The same thing applies for Taiwan," reported Taiwan News. The CCP of the 1920s actually held the opposite view on Taiwan, recognizing the people of Taiwan as a distinct "nation"...
